Esther Jones read music at Oxford University, where she was organ scholar of University College, and studied choral conducting at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2007 she became the first Open Academy Fellow; she is now a part-time tutor at the Royal Academy of Music. Esther is in demand as a conductor, teacher, adjudicator and animateur. She is deputy musical director of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and directs several choirs herself. Esther is a founder-member of the Vox Angelica vocal trio.
Recent projects include working as a tutor alongside Gareth Malone on BBC TV’s The Choir: Sing While You Work; conducting the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and massed primary school children in a performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria; directing music on BBC Radio 4’s Sunday Worship; and conducting the Brighton Festival Youth Choir on the soundtrack of the film version of Brighton Rock. Esther has also been a guest reviewer on Radio3’s CD Review programme.
