London Youth Choir
All voices in school year 11* – age 21
The London Youth Choir (LYC) is an auditioned SATB choir for singers in school year 11* – age 21. It is the flagship of the London Youth Choir ensembles, offering members a broad and exciting programme of repertoire in a variety of styles, musical traditions and languages, alongside professional vocal and musicianship coaching. Members benefit from workshop tuition from a variety of leading choral figures including Paul McCreesh, Greg Beardsell and John Rutter CBE. The London Youth Choir is proud to be partnered with Gabrieli Consort via the Gabrieli ROAR programme.
Recent performances include Britten’s War Requiem at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms, Haydn’s Creation in the Brandenburg Festival at St Martin in the Fields, the Mayor of London’s carol service at Southwark Cathedral, performing with Ellie Goulding at Wembley Arena and recording for the BBC with The Bach Choir and the BBC Singers.
*In exceptional circumstances, singers in year 10 may be invited to join this choir if they show outstanding singing and musicianship skills
The London Youth Choir rehearses on Monday evenings during term time from 7.30-9pm, at St Katherine Cree Church, Leadenhall Street, EC3A 3BP. Membership of the choirs is by audition; find out more on our join us page. Main Choir members participate in at least one London-based concert per term, as well as occasional residential courses. Members of the London Youth Choir pay a subsidised termly fee of £55. Financial assistance to help cover this and rehearsal travel costs is available via our bursary scheme.
